Making a Great Wedding Reception Seating Plan

It may seem like an easy task to make a successful wedding reception seating plan, but you do have to be careful where you sit some of the people. Before you can begin to think about who will sit where, you will need a map of the table arrangements and how many people will be at each table. The facility where you are holding your event will have just what you need before you get out your pencil and eraser.

Let both sets of the parents help with this task. This is especially important as the bride may not know the dynamics of her new husband’s family. In fact, you can let them do their portion of the guest seating plan on their own if that doesn’t bother you. This allows you to take care of your family and your friends seating arrangements.

An important thing to keep in mind is to sit the small children with their parents. You might think it is a good idea to make a kids table, but that can end in disaster if children are too young and not all parents are paying proper attention. They can’t help but see what their children are doing when they are seated right next to them. If the kids want to play together, there will plenty of time for that after the meal.

Seat people with others whose company you think they will enjoy. For instance, if your mother has invited a group of her friends, be sure you put them together. They may not know many of the bride and groom’s friends and family, but they will be comfortable and have fun with each other until they begin to mingle.

Sometimes you have extra people who don’t fit at any table. You can often make a nice combination if you keep like couples together if that is possible. For example, don’t sit a newly married couple with another couple that has very young children. The same can be said for older couples whose children have left the nest.

Once you have decided who will sit where at the tables, it is time to decide what table each group will sit at. You don’t want the older folk directly behind the young and crazy twenty something’s that are ready to party all night. It may take some juggling, but before you know it, you will have the perfect seating arrangement for your wedding reception.
